Jiitu Abraham was crowned, Miss Ethiopia World 2005 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s City Hall on March 19th
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, March 19th, 2004 - This evening during one of the most exciting and innovative competitions ever to be held in City Hall, Jiitu Abraham was crowned Miss Ethiopia World.
The 23-year-old delegate who resides in Washington, DC, was crowned at the conclusion of the two-part, Annual Miss Ethiopia World Contest. The daughter of Ethiopian born parents Abebe Abraham (father) and Azenegash Hailu Abraham (Mother) has one other sibling, Yohannes Abraham (brother). Jiitu is a model and a broadcast journalist. She is currently Revlon’s African Pride, National 2004-2005 Spokes Model, and has graced the pages of Vibe, Essence, Black Hair Sophisticate, and Hype Hair. She can currently be seen as the Senior, English Language, Anchor on an Ethiopian News Program, ENBS that airs in the Washington Metropolitan area every Saturday at 4pm on MHz Networks.
Throughout the two-day event, the delegates competed in several categories, traditionally, including a National Costume Presentation, a Swimsuit Presentation, an Evening Gown Presentation, and a Question and Answer Presentation. Along side with tradition there were several other creative Presentations involved in making this show the success that it was.
Part-I of the Miss Ethiopia World Competition consisted of 3 categories, a Fashion Show Presentation sponsored by Osman Leathers, a National Costume Presentation sponsored by Demberzaite, and a Question and Answer Presentation posed by the Miss Ethiopia World License Holder, Andy Abulime. The audience was wild with enthusiasm, each one shouting and cheering for their favored delegate. The show left the audience on the edge of their seat, making it nearly impossible not to attend the second part of the competition that was to be held later in the week.
Part-II of the Miss Ethiopia World Competition was unlike anything every attempted by an Ethiopian beauty contest in the past. It, too, consisted of 3 categories with one bonus presentation. It started off with a Dance Routine by all 24 delegates, followed by a Swimsuit Presentation, and 3 separate Questions and Answers Presentations that would conclude the judged categories of the competition. While points were being tallied the audience was introduced to the mothers of the top five finalists for a short, surprise, Miss Mama Ethiopia Presentation. These mothers ended up dancing their way to their coronation, literally. This bonus presentation helped to calm the already overzealous crowd and un-nerve the top five finalists who were awaiting the coronation results.
The two-day event, concluded with the coronation of 3 queens. Miss Ethiopia World 2005-Jiitu Abraham, Miss Universe Ethiopia 2005-Attigebe (Atti) Woldu, Miss Tourism Ethiopia 2005-Dina Fekadu.
Miss Ethiopia World 2005, Jiitu Abraham will go on to represent Ethiopia on an International level by participating in the Miss International 2005 Competition, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
